A 21-year-old commercial truck driver identified as Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City, California, is facing serious criminal charges following a devastating multi-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman and injured 32 others, including children. The crash has drawn widespread attention due to Singh’s prior involvement in another fatal trucking accident less than a year earlier.
According to investigators, the collision occurred when Singh was operating a Freightliner semi-truck hauling cargo. Authorities allege that the truck veered off the right shoulder of the roadway before crossing the center divider into oncoming traffic. The semi reportedly jackknifed across multiple lanes, colliding with several vehicles and causing extensive damage to roadway infrastructure, including barriers and guardrails.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where 58-year-old Christina King was pronounced dead. Thirty-two other individuals suffered injuries of varying severity, among them several minors and children. The scale of the crash prompted a major emergency response and a lengthy investigation into its cause.
The incident has also renewed scrutiny over Singh’s driving history.
